Boningale Homes announced on the 29th February 2024 that they aim to build on 56 hectares of greenbelt in an area south of the village. The planning application went live on the 8th of June. You can read the application documents on Shropshire Council's website on their Planning Portal.
In summary their plan:
● Is not included in the Shropshire Local Plan and would increase the footprint of
the village by 62% in an area that is disconnected from the High Street
●Would result in the CLOSURE of three roads - Cross Road (by HLSmith), Patshull Road and Newhouse Lane, all three being replaced with ONE road through their development and the only access to A464
● Would remove a massive area of productive farmland to build over 800 homes, a
park and ride, drive through, supermarket, secondary school, care home, doctors
surgery and chemist
● Would have severe and widespread negative impacts on Albrighton and the
surrounding area; including on roads, traffic levels, parking, rail station capacity, pedestrian safety, provision of spaces, health services, primary school capacity, as well as the huge negative impact from an environmental and conservation
perspective. View the drainage and access plans HERE
● If rejected Boningale Homes have said that they will go to Court of Appeal and if they don't win there they will appeal further to the Government's Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, Angela Rayner M.P.
